How did it all start?
Sitting in his office and asked how it all began, gicom co-founder Hans-Jakob Reuter replies: “I never thought I’d end up sitting here.” The original idea came from a time when he was given systemic responsibility for agreements management as head of IT at a Cologne-based department-store chain. “Our organizational model is still largely the same as it was 25 years ago”, he says. At the time, no-one would have guessed that his systemic invention would go on to be the core specialism of a whole company. Several years after his successful project, he eventually took the plunge and set up his own business with his co-partner Klaus Giese, who has since sadly passed away. Slowly but surely, they focused on solutions for links between industry and trade. All innovations that gicom has successfully introduced are based on Reuter’s systemic invention in the early 1990s.
What makes us special?
Our specialty is optimizing processes where trade, wholesale, associations, and industry collide. We were particularly drawn to the area of negotiations. For our project managers, consultants, developers, account managers, and quality-assurance staff, the main requirement is to be highly capable of integrating with existing active project teams and systems. Where does our name come from?
The name “gicom” is made up of the first two letters of the surname of founder Klaus Giese and “com”, which is short for “commercial” or “commerce”. We retain this name with pride, in memory of the man who set up this company in 1997 in conjunction with our Managing Director Hans-Jakob Reuter.
